Day One: Here comes the sun...

Ever listened to the Paul Kelly song ‘She’s a Melody’ and you will recognise the line: “She’s a stupid song that once it’s heard never goes away”. So true a statement! Not only is music, with its lyrics and melodies, an evocative conduit to ones emotional state but also an eternal noise on constant playback in the mind. Well, at least in mine.

Which then brings me to the title of this blog: a collision of thought and looping lyrics in the head whilst on a ride this morning through the ‘Bronx’ of suburbs in which I live. The song ‘Beautiful Mess’ by Jason Mraz had a strange resonance with me when I heard it for the first time a while back. Not so much for its content on love and difficult relationship but more the phrase ‘beautiful mess’. It struck me that a ‘mess’ can indeed be beautiful. Beauty in the broken, disordered and imperfect. A perfect descriptor of my life, my way, my mind and thinking.

Tracking forward, it also then reminded me of the power of sharing what is considered broken and unlovable by some (usually the stoically righteous who have life entirely sorted!) with others who understand and recognise the ‘beauty in the mess’. This is for you.

This blog is not going to be a beating of the breast ‘woe is me’ and a bleeding out of all that churns within, but rather a simple therapeutic tool of journaling and hurdling the beast that is my mind! Maybe you’ll see a smidge of you inside my head or maybe you’ll just be happy to know that there is indeed beauty in the mess!

So here I go...turn my face toward that sun!
